Constructed by Swedish prisoners of war in the 17th Century, the port was infamous for drunkenness, debauchery and prostitution. Hans Christian Andersen grew up here. Built by King Christian IV as a summer palace, it’s filled to the brim with royal relics; glittering crowns, controversial portraits and the pièce de résistance, a dazzling jewel-encrusted sword.</p><p>Next up are the magical Tivoli Gardens, dating back to 1843. Dare you take a ride on one of the world’s oldest wooden rollercoasters?
